World's Highest Density Data Center

for now......

I am amazed at this record, but the way things are going and being built, I imagine it won't stay a record for long. The Data Center Journal reports that CH2M designed the world's highest density data center at 500 Watts/sf!!

Since I am a Google maps fanatic I checked it out (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=5680+Greenwood+Plaza+Blvd,+greenwood+village,co&ie=UTF8&z=10&ll=39.626846,-104.924927&spn=0.41886,1.384277&om=1)

I've always liked the Denver area and have some friends and relatives out there. Maybe I'll check it out the next time I am out there.

This is very deceiving. They are saying that they will deliver 500watts a foot for 5k sq ft. That is about 2.5Megawatts of power. At 20 square feet a rack/cab you can fit 250 cabs you place 250 cab/racks at 10kw each. 10kw is a std config for the top 20 internet sites. All of the major vendors...equinix, svvs, att, 365main, terremark, etc have some deployments that are at this level. I know of three or four installations like this at Equinix' Ashburn campus alone. Of course they are mothballing space for this because their sites are not designed to support this across the entire colo floor. Had this deal with CH2 been for 50ksq or more it would be news but its not. Rackable makes a 25kw cabinet so the watts per ft at the cabinet need to be greater than 1000. stupid if you ask me.
